O rapper King Von, um artista emergente de Chicago, Illinois, foi morto do lado de fora de uma boate de Atlanta após uma altercação com outros clientes do Monaco Hookah Lounge.
Born Dayvon Daquan Bennett, Von was rising quickly in the music scene, having signed to Lil Durk’s record label, Only the Family. Music saved him from a more troubled life: During his teens and early twenties, Von was arrested multiple times for different offenses, and only after walking away from a murder charge did Von get into rapping.
Pressed by Lil Durk to pursue the musical outlet, Durk released Von’s first single, “Crazy Story” in 2018. The hit went on to become Von’s breakout single. Later that year, “Crazy Story 2.0” went on to peak at number 4 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart in 2019.
For somebody with such a young career, Von had collaborated with an impressive number of some of rap’s most well-known stars. Names like Sada Baby, YNW Melly, Fivio Foreign, Wheezy, Hitmaka and many others have all shared their individual talents with the late artist.
According to Fox5 out of Atlanta, Von was coming out of the Monaco Hookah Lounge, where a dispute with another group of men turned into a brawl, and then shots were fired. Two police officers, who were nearby, were also involved in the shooting as they tried to break up the fight.
Police Sergeant John Chafee has since warned those involved, “We’re coming for you.”
Details are still forthcoming about what caused the fight, and who fired the shots outside the nightclub, but with Von and two others dead, and one still in critical condition, there’s little doubt that an argument went from bad to worse.
